A Justice of the Court of Appeal, Justice Sir Dennis Adjei is billed to deliver a lecture at the 2022 Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences Annual Lecture in the Arts.

As the keynote Speaker, the Justice will speak on the topic: THE PARAMETERS OF RIGHT TO INFORMATION AND ITS IMPACT ON GHANA”

The lecture, which will be chaired by Emerita Prof. Elizabeth Ardayfio-Schandorf, FGA is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 5, 2022, at 5:30 PM prompt at the Academy’s Auditorium.

SYNOPSIS OF THE LECTURE

Government and Public officers are fiduciaries and are under a legal obligation to be transparent and accountable to the people of Ghana by making available accurate, authentic, and credible information to them. The citizens of Ghana in whom sovereignty resides made the Constitution of Ghana, 1992 for themselves and ceded their powers to the Government to govern them within the limits laid down in it.

The Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989) has established the Right to Information Commission to promote, protect, monitor, and enforce the right to information under the Constitution of Ghana, 1992.

Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei, FGA will discuss the right to information as a fundamental human rights provision.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei attended Atwimaman Secondary School, Trabuom (1985), and Wenchi Secondary School (1987). He then proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon (1991) where he obtained his B.A. in Law and Linguistics. He holds a Master of Judicial Studies (MJS) from Duke University School of Law, Durham, North Carolina, USA (2014), Master of Laws (LLM) (Criminology and Criminal Justice) from the University of London, UK (2010), Executive Master of Public Administration (EMPA), GIMPA (2010) and Barrister At Law (BL), Ghana School of Law (1993).

Justice Dennis Dominic Adjei is a Justice of the Court of Appeal. He was elected into the fellowship of the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences on December 05, 2019.

ABOUT THE ACADEMY

At a lecture on “The Changing Trends in Land Law, Policy, Governance, and Management under the Land Act (Act 1036)”, Justice Sir Dennis Adjei described what the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences Stands for.

He said, “ Quite often, people ask me, the Academy, what is it about? Is it an NGO? What do you do? Is it a secret society?. 

“It is none of them. It is created by an Act of Parliament, THE GHANA ACADEMY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES ACT (NLCD 291) 1968. And when you look at its objects, it is very important. To promote the study of science extension and dissemination of knowledge of the Arts and Sciences. And to maintain standards in the field of Arts and Sciences. Then recognize the contribution to the advancement of Arts and Sciences in the Republic.

Per Section 9, if you want to be a Fellow, we look at significant contributions made by you to the development of any of the Arts or Sciences.”
